Mobile Solutions offers
several material specifi c plastic adhesive solutions.
Many fabricators assume it is okay to use CA glue
for every plastic surface (especially in dash panel
work) when, in fact, there are often more suitable
adhesives depending on the plastic material type.
Of course acrylics like “Plexiglas” and
other brands also require special adhesives.
Use Weld-On (water consistency) acrylic cement
for joining acrylic plastics, particularly when
laminating multiple colored plastics together.
Sold in a 4oz. can. The 2oz. applicator bottle
with 20 ga. (syringe type) needle is sold separately.
If it’s clear acrylic then you want to
use the Weld-On #16 gel. It dries optically clear
so you can’t even see the glue joint. Sold
in a 5oz. tube and the consistency is like syrup.
It will dry clear so it will not show the glue
joint.
If you are bonding ABS plastic to itself or bonding
other styrene and polycarbonate type plastics to
themselves, use Weld-On #2354. It’s got the
consistency of syrup and is sold in a 5oz. can.
This adhesive is not for joining dissimilar plastics.
Use Kent 2-Part Automotive Epoxy for bonding metal,
plastics, SMC, and fi berglass to each other. It’s
the best! Ready to sand and paint within an hour.
Resists chemical intrusion. Sold in two 8oz. tubes.
Ray Crete is excellent for dash reconstruction. You can cut, drill, sand, paint, router, and shape. Repair fiberglass and PVC as well as other “brittle” thermosets. Workable while it cures, and changes from liquid to paste to putty to solid in 20 minutes. It can bond and adhere to dissimilar surfaces, wood, concrete, metals, glass, and fiberglass.
The possibilities are endless for this multi-mender. |
